Betty Glyer-Culver
Betty Glyer-Culver created this scholarship in loving memory of her father, Gordon Robert Glyer, April 13, 1935 – January 15, 2023
Gordon Robert Glyer took his final checkered flag on January 15, 2023. He was a man born with motor oil in his veins. Known for being part of a caravan of refurbished milk trucks, memories were made trail riding and racing. But his one true love was during his Austin Healey and Ferrari Testa Rosa racing years. He, with mom at his side with coffee and her trusty stopwatch, raced the sports car circuit. He was fortunate to be reunited with his Testa Rosa at the Stroll practice track and it might have been the best day of his later years. Glyer also attended the most recent Concours and spent the day sharing details about that beautiful red Ferrari. Thank you to all those who made that possible for Dad. The motor sports world lost a true sports car racing historian with Dad’s passing as he knew every factoid about every race, every car, every driver. Glyer was surrounded by a cast of colorful characters throughout his life, please gather, tell a story and laugh in Dad’s memory. He would love nothing more. Gordon Glyer was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Glyer, survived by his daughter Betty Glyer-Culver (Robert), and granddaughters Emily Fern (Robson) and Celina Pearl.
A native Sacramentan, Dad worked in the car business his entire career, from the early days at Oxford Motors to his own car dealerships, he wove his love of cars into his career. In Dad’s memory, the family has established a scholarship in his name to support students in the Automotive Technology Program at American River College. Rest Easy Dad. I imagine you gathered with the greats as you regale one another with the best of all racing stories.
