California Retired Teachers Association, Division 5
In January of 1935 the State Capital Area division became the fifth to affiliate with CalRTA and become the northern-most division. From the original nine charter members, we have grown to 1100 members in 27 states, Australia and Mexico. Division 5 has a long history of advocating for retirement legislation in Sacramento. The majority of the members are from two large school districts, Elk Grove Unified and Sacramento City Unified.
Impact
CalRTA has been a long-time partner of the Los Rios colleges, and recently increased the amount of their scholarship to our students to $1,500. These scholarships are awarded to outstanding Los Rios students at each of the four colleges who wish to pursue a teaching credential. Since the CalRTA Division 5 Scholarship endowment was established in 1999, we have awarded $86,000 to the next generation of teachers.
