Children of Christiane G. Morgan

ARC Christiane G. Morgan Memorial
Christiane Morgan was born in Paris, France, on November 15, 1925, the only child of Maurice and Marguerite Gauignier. She grew up in Paris and was educated at the Institute de la Madeleine, an exclusive private girls’ school. After receiving her Baccalaureate, she attended law school at the famous University of the Sorbonne. It was during that time that she met Ray Harris, an American paratrooper and officer in the Air Force. At the age of nineteen, she along with other American war brides, took the boat across the Atlantic Ocean to New York. She joined Ray and his family in Rio Vista, California. Christiane and Ray had five children: Patrick, Catheline, Philippe, Daniel and Elizabeth. Unfortunately, the marriage ended in divorce in 1954. She later met and married Daniel Morgan, an orthopedic surgeon. They had three children: June, Janine and Mark. Christiane was an extremely ambitious woman and continued her love of learning at CSUS where she earned her teaching credential, as well as a Master’s Degree in French. For 32 years she was a Professor of French at American River College where she taught many students with whom she shared a passion for French history, literature, art and world travel. Her students had an appreciation for her charisima and enthusiastic teaching style and she was recognized by them in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. She was a very loving mother and devoted grandmother who always put her family’s needs before her own. She passed away in 2003. This scholarship is presented by her children in memory of her devotion and love of teaching, as well as for her amazing zest for life. We hope the recipients of this scholarship will keep her biography among your important papers and perhaps some day in the future, you will be able to use the French language you learned in her native land. That is what she would have wanted.
