Dr. Rachel Rosenthal

Dr. Rachel Rosenthal was the second president of Folsom Lake College in Folsom, California. Prior to joining Folsom Lake College in July 2012, Rachel was the assistant superintendent and vice president of instruction at Sierra College in Rocklin, California, where
she was named Sierra College’s 2011 Manager of the Year. She began her career in higher education at American River College as a mathematics professor in 1994. In 2000, she was promoted to dean of the mathematics department and in 2004 she was named the
Dean of Planning, Research, and Development, a job she held until moving to Sierra College in 2007.

Prior to her tenure in higher education, Rachel worked in the private sector as a project engineer for Tulsa, Oklahoma natural gas firms such as Occidental Petroleum Company and Will Bros Engineering. Just prior to transitioning to education, she worked as a registered civil engineer for CalTrans in Sacramento, leading the design of highway seismic retrofit projects in southern
California. She holds a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and a Master’s in Applied Mathematics from University of California, Davis; a Master’s in Education from California State University, Sacramento; and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. Rachel is active in the community and currently serves on the boards of the Folsom Economic Development Corporation, the Folsom Tourism Bureau, Folsom Lake College Foundation, and Sacramento SPCA, and is a Commissioner for the Association for California Community College Administrators Association, California Community College Athletics Association, and the American Association of Community Colleges. And although no longer a Rotarian, she’s a regular speaker and attendee at area Rotary meetings. She’s also been a longtime volunteer puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit organization that provides trained service dogs for the handicapped. Rachel currently resides in Lake of the Pines with her husband, Steve. In her spare time, she enjoys photography and travel.
