Jacinto Yamzon III Memorial Scholarship
Jennifer Yamzon, family, friends, and colleagues are donors to the Jacinto J. Yamzon III Memorial Scholarship at Sacramento City College, which is in memory of a beautiful and joyful human being. Jacinto was born in Manila, Philippines on November 11, 1974. His family moved to the United States when he was a young child. Jacinto attended school in the Los Angeles area and graduated from Providence High School in Burbank and received a B.S. in Occupational Therapy and Minor in Psychology at San Jose State University.
There he met his wife, Jennifer, who was also studying to be an Occupational Therapist. The couple got married in June 2002 and both worked in Southern California for a few years. Jacinto and his wife moved to Sacramento where he accepted a position at UC Davis Medical Center. He was a man of faith and loved his wife and three amazing children. He truly enjoyed his profession and was often seen interacting and smiling with others. Everyone gravitated toward his fun energetic manner. Family, friends, and colleagues would say that Jacinto met no stranger. People may not always remember his name, but they sure remember his presence.
Jacinto was an Occupational Therapist for 21 years. He dedicated himself to the profession and supported his staff in so many ways. Jacinto enjoyed working with patients, young and old, and connected with their families in such a unique and positive way. If you ask his colleagues, there was not a patient that he couldn’t work with. Jacinto always took the time to listen and converse with the individuals he worked with. He made sure to sprinkle humor in every encounter he had with people.
Jacinto enjoyed mentoring Occupational Therapy students throughout his career. He had a special way of connecting with each student who crossed his path. UC Davis colleagues say that Jacinto was a supervisor that they can always count on. In his jovial way, Jacinto impacted so many individuals. We know that if Jacinto was still here with us, he would continue to make a difference in people’s live including our future OT’s.
On August 16, 2021, Jacinto was called home to be with Our Heavenly Father. He leaves behind his wife and three children.
“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.
