John J. Burleson

This scholarship celebrates the life and spirit of Susan M. Carr, a single mother who balanced her career at Safeway with her commitment to learning and love for sports. Her positive outlook and trademark phrase, “Living the dream,” continue to inspire others to pursue their goals with determination and heart. It was established by her son, John J. Burleson, an alumni of American River College, pictured here with his mother upon his graduation.
