Katherine McLain
Katherine McLain supports the Trailblazer Scholarship and the Victory Scholarship.
The Trailblazer Scholarship is in honor of Joyce Van Tuyl, who graduated from the University of Michigan in 1945 with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. She was one of only two women amongst the 115 Engineering Department graduates that year. Throughout her life she advocated against gender and other biases in the areas of education and employment.
The Victory Scholarship is also in honor of Joyce Van Tuyl, who worked tirelessly to support the educational success of people with visual impairments through her work in the Braille community (including transcribing, teaching other transcribers, and developing code and other techniques for math and science textbooks). She also had a passion for education and a soft spot in her heart for individuals who experienced difficult life situations.
