Leila Stone
Leila Stone has two scholarships at Sacramento City College: SCC Ronald Schnepp Memorial Scholarship and SCC Richard Henry Stone, Jr. Memorial Scholarship.
The SCC Ronald Schnepp Memorial Scholarship was created in Leila’s stepfather’s remembrance, Ronald L. Schnepp. This is what she wrote about him:
“Ronald L. Schnepp was my stepfather who attended Sacramento City College from 1968 to 1970. He studied aeronautics and became an air frame power plant mechanic. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and loved airplanes. When he graduated he worked on N3N biplane crop dusters, then later in his career he worked at Cessna Citation working on jets until his retirement. He was a man of few words, precise, methodical and exacting in his work and a hard working man with a huge heart. I want students to know that their passion for working on planes is shared in the heart of my dad.”
The SCC Richard Henry Stone Jr. Memorial Scholarship was created in Leila’s brother’s remembrance, Richard Henry Stone Jr and in honor of her mother, Roslind Stone. This is what Leila Stone wrote:
“Richard Henry Stone Jr. is the name of my 5 year old brother who passed away tragically. He was an enthusiastic child who had a stutter and a wonder about many things. My mother Roslind Stone, after my brother’s death as a single mom of three graduated from the SCC nursing program. At that time my mom was the parent of my sister Susie, 16, myself 15 and my baby sister Shelly, 3 years old. We were on welfare. My mother taught me about perseverance, working hard to accomplish and the power of education to elevate standards of living. This scholarship is in honor of my little brother and my mother who have both inspired and motivated me on my life’s journey.”
