SCC Mary Terese Dolan Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship supports students who are in one of the following majors: English, Foreign Languages, Journalism, Music-Performance, or Theatre Arts at Sacramento City College.

Leslie Dolan Silveira and her sisters created the Mary Terese Dolan Memorial Scholarship in memory of their mother, Mary Terese Dolan. Mary Terese was a student of what was then called Sacramento Junior College, now called Sacramento City College. She then went on to graduate from Sacramento State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Language Arts. She loved foreign language and her focus was on Spanish and French. She also worked for the school newspaper at Sacramento State in which she eventually used those skills to go on and work for the Sacramento Bee. She greatly appreciated Journalism and English, and Leslie tells us that grammar was often corrected at home! Mary Terese also appeared in a play for Sacramento State – she loved theater. She was also considered an accomplished pianist in the Sacramento area, not to mention very skilled in playing the organ. She retired from Sacramento City College in 2007 after having worked for the Language and Literature Department. She absolutely loved Sacramento City College!
