The CRC Elaine Rees Memorial Scholarship is offered in memory of Elaine Rees. Elaine was a founding faculty member of Cosumnes River College, joining in the early 1970s at the opening of CRC’s instruction. As Chair of the Foreign Language Department, she developed the Spanish language curriculum and taught classes with energy, enthusiasm, and dedication. Over her 31 years of service, she broke new ground as the College’s first woman manager, serving as Dean of the Evening College, and took on the role of the early Title IX Gender Equity Coordinator. She also initiated the process for faculty to evaluate administrators—an important step in academic governance. In retirement, Elaine continued to embrace life fully. She was an accomplished pilot, a talented musician, an avid traveler across continents, and a warm, compassionate communicator with former students. She was a valued supporter of the Emeriti Association and its development. While the health challenges of partial blindness and strokes altered her lifestyle, she remained resilient and connected with her community.
