Zonta Club of Sacramento
The Zonta Club of Sacramento funds the Zonta Club of Sacramento Nursing Scholarship in memory of Miss Belle Cooledge.
The Zonta Club of Sacramento has established the VN Nursing Scholarship in appreciation of the health providers assisting in the current coronavirus pandemic. We have named the scholarship in honor of Belle Cooledge, an illustrious member of our club who also served as a World War I nurse.
When Miss Cooledge retired from her dual position of Vice President and Dean of Women at Sacramento City College, she explored continued options for service. The Zonta Club of Sacramento encouraged her to run for City Council. This run resulted in her being elected the first woman Mayor of Sacramento.
Zonta Club of Sacramento is a member of Zonta International, a worldwide organization of professionals that envisions a world in which every woman is able to reach her full potential. Zonta International was established in Buffalo, New York in 1919 and in 1938 Zonta Club of Sacramento became an official member.
