Sacramento Suburban Writers Club Scholarship
The Sacramento Suburban Writers Club is holding an annual scholarship competition for senior high school students. The next award will be made in Spring 2027 for the best short story or essay. A prize of $1000 will be awarded to the winner, and the winning entry will be published in the Suburban Scribe, the club’s newsletter.
Submission of entry to the competition is free, subject to support by one of the applicant’s teachers.
A panel of judges will be appointed by Sacramento Suburban Writers Club to choose the winner. Decisions will be based on their individual experiences and expertise, and on a clearly defined set of writing criteria. Their decision is final.
Full rules of entry are listed below.
Entries can be independent of the student’s choice of study or vocation. There are no prerequisites for submitting an entry, for instance previous grades or qualifications will not be considered. The award will be awarded based solely on the merits of the submitted work.
All entrants will receive free membership to Sacramento Suburban Writers Club for one year. This alone is worth $30 for a full-time student membership.
Submissions will be accepted from any high school senior or student in their first two years of college in the Sacramento area who plans to attend college in the fall of 2027. Allowances will be made for students who wish to take a sabbatical before entering college.
The Sacramento Suburban Writers Club is committed to foster, encourage, and educate writers and independent publishers of all ages.
