Marie McDonald Lahey was thirty-two years old when her husband died in 1935, during the difficult years of the Great Depression. She struggled to raise her five young children, who ranged in age from two to fourteen years old. With grit and determination, and with help from her extended family and from the Catholic Church, she succeeded. She built a strong and loving family and instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of faith, education and hard work. This scholarship has been created in her memory.
